Steven T. Kaufman, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), is the Division Head of Endocrinology at Cooper University Health Care. Dr. Kaufman graduated with honors from Rutgers University with his bachelor of arts. He received his medical degree from Temple University before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and his fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Kaufman's urban health efforts are focused on decreasing the disparities in the management of chronic illness, specifically diabetes. His early work in urban health with the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers focused on practice-level innovations in diabetes care within primary care offices in the resource-poor community of Camden, NJ. He is now the Medical Director of Cooper University Health Care's Urban Health Institute. He heads an interdisciplinary team implementing innovative health care delivery through open access scheduling, shared medical visits, and improved clinical efficiency across 23 medical and surgical specialties. Dr. Kaufman's additional roles include Medical Director of the hospital's Inpatient Glycemic Control Task Force and Co-Course Director for the CMSRU Interdisciplinary Chronic Care Clerkship.

Dr. Kaufman and his wife have been married for more than 22 years, and have two children: Samuel (21) and Isabel (18). He enjoys long-distance running and hiking.

Farah H. Morgan, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), is the Program Director for the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Cooper. Dr. Morgan graduated from Boston University with her bachelor of arts. She received her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Morgan completed her clinical rotations in medical school at Cooper.

"A big pull to come back to Cooper were the fond memories of camaraderie at Cooper and the faculty commitment to education that I experienced as a medical student," says Dr Morgan.

Dr. Morgan went on to complete her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Virginia. She then served as a fourth year chief for the Internal Medicine Program and went on to complete her Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Virginia.

She joined the Cooper family in 2011. She has served as a Scholar's Workshop facilitator at CMSRU for three years, is the co-director of the endocrine course for the second year medical students, and now serves as Endocrinology Fellowship Program Director.

"I've always had a strong interest in medical education, which was further fostered during my chief year," says Dr. Morgan.

"I knew I wanted to be involved in education after completing my fellowship. I came to Cooper because of the opportunity to help establish a fellowship program here. Working with the fellows is one of the most fun parts of my day!"

Dr. Morgan and her husband have been married for 11 years, have two energetic boys, Janu (8) and Jalen (5), and an energetic chocolate lab puppy, Jasmine. Outside of medicine, she enjoys skiing, being outdoors, and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Robert Becker, MD, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Stanford University.  He also completed a Master's of Business Administration from London Business School. He worked for many years as an engineer, product developer, and marketing consultant, conducting qualitative research on people's behaviors and needs to drive the development of new products such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems, consumer electronics, office furniture, and foods. He eventually returned to his interest in hard science and health by studying medicine. He received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University. He also completed Internal Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center.  

As someone with type 1 diabetes and thyroid disease he was attracted to endocrinology. Moreover, the importance of behavior in managing diseases like diabetes fit with his interest in how external factors can affect people's habits. He completed fellowship training in endocrinology at Cooper University Hospital and stayed on to join the Cooper faculty in 2016.

Dr. Becker is interested in all areas of endocrinology, saying that "the feedback loops appeal to my engineering mind," but he is particularly interested in prediabetes, obesity medicine, and how nutrition affects health. 

Dr. Becker lives in Philadelphia with his wife, daughter, and son.  Outside of medicine, he plays soccer, snowboards (although not as often as he would like since moving to the East Coast), and reads a lot of nerdy science fiction.
